Is there a Chinese Drywall Class Action Lawsuit?
Laywers seeking millions in damages related to toxic sheetrock and wallboard.
Chinese Drywall Lawsuit cases and class action lawsuits have become more prevelant in the last 2 years due to the proliferation of Chinese Drywall and Wallboard that was used during the housing boom and post-Katrina construction in the southern US. The plaster in this wallboard was found to contain sulfur compounds that release a foul-smelling gas that can tarnish copper and silver in homes. The damage to copper can destroy air conditioning coils and wiring in your home, as well as your home electronics like TV sets, phones, and appliances. Many people reported health problems from rotten egg smell as well. Moisture and humidity bring out the sulfur compounds more readily, so homes in Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas are reporting more cases of this bad sheetrock. However, the construction boom in Arizona, California, and Nevada also means that homes built there may have the same wallboard, which may not manifest toxic properties until more moisture is in the air. People who buy foreclosures in these states may want to inspect for toxic drywall and look for telltale signs of copper corrosion. Litigation related to Chinese Drywall has so far resulted in settlements where homebuilders and contractors have replaced all the plaster in affected homes, or offered cash settlements and/or new homes to those who make claims.
Notes and Special Information
Special note: Not all Chinese sheetrock is toxic, so you should get yours tested if you believe it may be part of the batch that causes problems.
